NATURE OF TYPING TEST ERRORS

REVISED GUIDELINES OF SSC FOR EVALUATION OF TYPING TEST/DEST SCRIPTS (ENGLISH/HINDI)

A. Full Errors:

The following types of errors are considered as full mistakes:

  • i. Omission Errors: Each instance of omitting a word/figure is considered a full mistake.
  • ii. Substitution Errors: Any substitution of a wrong word/figure, excluding transposition of words, is considered a full mistake.
  • iii. Addition Errors: Every addition of a word/figure not present in the passage is treated as a full mistake.
  • iv. Spelling Errors: Spelling mistakes involving repetition, addition, omission, or substitution of a letter/letters, such as ‘spelling’ typed as seeplings; seplling; speling; seepling; spelling, etc., are considered full mistakes.
  • v. Repetition Errors: Instances where a word/figure is repeated, for example, ‘I shall shall be grateful ……….,’ are considered full mistakes.
  • vi. Incomplete Words: Half-typed words are treated as mistakes.

B. Half Errors:

The following types of errors are considered as half mistakes:

  • i. Spacing Errors: Cases where no space is provided between two words (e.g., ‘Ihope’) or undesired space is added between the words or letters of a word (e.g., ‘I have,’ ‘I h ave’) are considered half mistakes.
  • ii. Wrong Capitalization: Incorrect use of capital letters for small letters or vice versa is considered a half mistake. (This rule does not apply to Hindi Typewriting scripts.)
  • iii. Punctuation Errors: Any omission, addition, or substitution of punctuation marks is considered a half mistake.
  • iv. Transposition Errors: Errors where words are transposed, such as ‘I hope’ typed as ‘hope I,’ are considered half mistakes.
  • v. Paragraphic Errors: Each instance of an irrational paragraph, where the spaces before the start of any paragraph are not uniform (e.g., paragraphs with manual spaces without pressing the Tab Key), is considered a half mistake.
