Chandrayaan-3 Mission:
Chandrayaan-3 was India’s third lunar exploration mission, launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
On 23 August 2023, its lander module Vikram achieved a historic soft landing near the Moon’s south pole, a region never before explored by any nation.
This made India the fourth country (after the USA, USSR/Russia, and China) to successfully land on the Moon, and the first to land near the lunar south pole.
Pragyan Rover Deployment:
After the landing, the rover Pragyan was deployed to study the lunar surface, conducting experiments on soil composition and thermal properties.
Shiv Shakti Point:
The landing site was named “Shiv Shakti Point” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, symbolizing India’s scientific strength and cultural heritage.
Declaration of National Space Day:
To honor this achievement, 23 August was officially declared “National Space Day” in 2023.
The celebration in 2025 marked the second National Space Day, highlighting India’s growing role in space exploration and inspiring future generations.
