The First Anglo–Mysore War began in 1767 between the British East India Company and the Kingdom of Mysore ruled by Hyder Ali.

The main reason for the war was the expansionist policy of the British in South India, which threatened Mysore’s power. Hyder Ali formed alliances with the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Marathas to challenge British dominance.

The war lasted from 1767 to 1769 and ended with the Treaty of Madras, under which both sides agreed to return captured territories and support each other in case of attack.
