RRB Station Master Recruitment 2026 – 2027: New Exam Pattern, Separate CEN & Revised Syllabus

A major update has been announced for all aspirants preparing for the RRB Station Master post. The Railway Board has officially decided that starting from the 2026 recruitment cycle, the Station Master post will be notified separately through a dedicated Centralised Employment Notification (CEN).
This means Station Master will no longer be part of the general NTPC (Non-Technical Popular Categories) graduate-level recruitment. Here is the complete breakdown of the new selection methodology, exam pattern, and syllabus.
1. Key Highlights of the New RRB Station Master Recruitment 2026
- Separate CEN: Recruitment for Station Master will be notified separately from 2026 onwards.
- Single Stage CBT: The exam will consist of a Single Stage Computer Based Test (CBT).
- CBAT Included: Candidates shortlisted from CBT will undergo a Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT).
- Weightage: Final merit will be calculated with 70% weightage to CBT and 30% weightage to CBAT.
- New Syllabus: A revised syllabus (Annexure-A) has been released and will be operational from the 2026 cycle.
2. New Selection Process for Station Master
The selection methodology comprises the following stages:
- Single Stage Computer Based Test (CBT)
- Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) – Only for shortlisted candidates
- Document Verification (DV)
- Medical Examination
Shortlisting Criteria:
- For CBAT: Candidates will be shortlisted 8 times the number of vacancies (RRB-wise) based on CBT merit.
- For DV & Medical: Candidates will be shortlisted 1:1 (RRB-wise) based on combined merit of CBT + CBAT.
- Important: Only candidates who qualify/pass the CBAT will be considered for the final merit list.

A. Basic Science, Mathematical and Analytical Capability (60 Marks)
a) Basic Science and Mathematics (30 Marks):
- Mathematics: Number System, Ratio & Proportions, Averages, Percentages, Profit, Loss & Discounts, Time, Speed, Distance, Power & Work, Algebra, Linear Equations, Arithmetic Progression, LCM, HCF, Geometry and Trigonometry, Area & Volumes, Probability and Statistics (Basic Level only).
- Science: Units, Measurements, Mass Weight and Density, Work Power, Energy, Kinetic Energy, Friction, Speed, Velocity, Relative Velocity, Heat and Temperature, Basic Electricity, Levers and Simple Machines.
b) Data Analysis & Interpretation (30 Marks):
- Multi-source Data Analysis
- Examination, analysis and Inference drawing from text, tabular data and data represented graphically (charts, graphs, scatter plot, pie chart, statistical curve distribution, Venn Diagrams).
- Data Sufficiency, Data Arrangement.
B. Logical Capability (20 Marks)
a) Logical Reasoning:
- Binary Logic, Syllogism, Clocks & Calendars, Assumptions, Blood Relations, Family Tree, Solving logic-based puzzles.
b) Reading Comprehension:
- Passages and Questions in English language from subjects like History, Society, Literature, Science, Environment, Abstract, Mythology, Technology, and Culture.
- Questions on Main idea, Supporting idea, Application, Logical Structure & Style of the given Paragraph.
C. Mental Reasoning (20 Marks)
- Analogy: Identifying relationship between two items and applying it to another pair.
- Series Completion: Identifying the pattern in a sequence of numbers and predicting the next term.
- Coding-Decoding: Solving Coding-Decoding type questions.
- Ranking and Arrangements: Solving Ranking and Arrangements based problems.
5. Eligibility Criteria (Reiterated)
- Age Limit: 20 to 33 years (including 3 years age relaxation as per Board’s letter dated 21.02.2018).
- Educational Qualification: Graduation Degree from a recognized University or its equivalent.
- Medical Standard: A-2
- PwBD Suitability: VI-No; HI-No; LD-No; OD-No; MD-No
- Pay Level: Level 6 in 7th CPC (Basic Pay: ₹35,400)

Zonal Railways have been instructed to place indents (not exceeding the distribution approved by Railway Board) in the OIRMS Portal. They must strictly ensure that prescribed reservation norms are followed while placing indents.
