Detailed Solution & Logic
one-fourth
Process of Impeachment (Article 61 of the Constitution):
A resolution containing charges against the President can be introduced in either the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha.
Initiation: The notice of intention to move the resolution must be signed by not less than one-fourth of the total members of the House.
Adoption: The resolution must then be passed by a two-thirds majority of the total membership of that House.
Other House: The charges are then investigated by the other House, which also must pass the resolution by a two-thirds majority.
If both Houses agree, the President is considered impeached.
Grounds: The only ground for impeachment is “violation of the Constitution.”
Answer: The impeachment charges must be signed by at least one-fourth of the members of the House initiating the motion.
