Touch typing is a method of typing on a computer keyboard or typewriter where you type without having to look at the keys. Instead of hunting and pecking for keys, touch typists use a specific finger for each key and rely on muscle memory to type accurately and quickly.

Key features of touch typing:

  1. Hand Position and Finger Placement: Touch typists maintain a specific hand position on the keyboard, with their fingers resting on the “home row” keys. In English keyboards, – left hand – ASDF and right hand JKL;
  2. Build Muscle Memory: Touch typists develop muscle memory through practice and repetition, which enables them to know where each key is located without looking.
  3. Higher Typing Speed: Touch typist don’t need to visually locate each key before pressing it, result higher speed in compression of one who look and type.
  4. Higher Accuracy: Touch typing generally leads to higher typing accuracy, because typists is not focused on finding keys and this reduce number of errors.
